The Gidley

Everything was great except for an unfortunately very chewy rib-eye on the bone. The sides, good service and an excellent glass of Shiraz saved the day however, but still disappointed that the star of the show was a big let down.

The service here was appalling - throughout the entire meal service our waiter was making petty comments. When we first ordered - we were recommended to get 2.5kg of steak on top of the entrees and sides we ordered for eight people when we had grandparents present who couldn’t eat much. We ended up ordering less and the waiter gave us a dirty look and added more items to the order - we guarantee that we were very full and couldn’t imagining ordering more than double the amount of steak we had! His attitude was horrible and kept rolling his eyes at our conversations. Although the food was of high quality - would NOT recommend due to the horrible service - you will feel very uncomfortable with the snooty and snarky waiters around you!

The staff were so welcoming and friendly. The restaurant is fancy with an almost secret entrance down to a door with a buzzer entry. Good menu, although we were disappointed that the asparagus wasn't available. The steak was good, but for me, it needed to be tastier with less gristle. I feel like we were supposed to be wowed by the prices and the ambience, but I wasn't. However, the gluten-free bread is amazing (if a little small), and the sides are excellent. Particularly the Potato Gratin and Brussels Sprouts. The GF Chocolate & Cherry dessert was also good. It made a change from the usual Brownie always on offer to coeliac diners. The wine was perfect, and the glasses made it taste even better.

Not hold the gadget during the dinner was very interesting experience. We can focus on the people or family, talking about anything, enjoy the food without bothering seeing the text.

Ate here in the private dining room as part of a bucks night. Food was amazing, with the steaks were cooked to perfection. Staff were very friendly, attentive and made the evening very enjoyable. Highlight was deconstructed martini, which allowed us to experiment with different flavour combinations. A highly memorable night!

The best burger I have ever had in my 30 years alive. Little too dark inside for me but the food was exceptional. The potatoes gratin were also possibly top 3 I’ve ever had. Only big negative is we had a lot of leftovers and it seems they don’t let you take any food home? Not sure but we didn’t ask !

The service in this restaurant was one of the worst I’ve ever experienced. We had our family dinner here with grandparents who are of old age. The first thing our server asks is to order at least 2.4 kg of steak with our party of 8. After repeatedly reminding the waiter that our party has elderly and 300 grams of steak pp is unreasonable he puts in sly comments about how we aren’t ordering what’s expected. With our order put in, through out the night he continues to put in nasty comments about how dirty the table is, or whether we could drink more. We had ordered two bottles of wine, and with our family not being big drinkers this was more than enough. The waiter continues to haggle us into ordering more. Our family just wanted a peaceful holiday dinner, yet the atmosphere was completely off and the waiter continued to jab in comments such as “surely you can drink more”, “what did you do here” (where one of our family members had dropped a lemon on the table). He also mocked our way of calling our father in our language. The worst was the snarky chuckles he would give throughout the night. There is a very clear line between being social and “bantering” with customers, to just being rude and unwelcoming. Would not be recommending this place to anyone, especially families. Please go to Bistecca, the service there is welcoming and way more professional than their “sister” restaurant.

The Gidley was one of the most special dining experiences. The food is phenomenal, you must order the english prime rib. Drinks were also well made and upscale. But most importantly, the atmosphere was unique and exciting. The entrance is a small door that you would never notice, which leads down to a low-lit intimate basement setting. The decor is elegantly vintage with dark woods, plush seating, and antique light fixtures casting a warm, inviting glow. Staff also offered to take our phones away at the beginning of the meal, which was a fun touch and added to them immersive experience.

One of my all time favourite restaurants in Sydney and the very best opulent steak house you will find anywhere in the country. No others come close. The Gidley understands hospitality and the team running this restaurant are absolute pros at what they do. Last night my group of 4 were so well looked after. We were seated for cocktails first at 6pm in the bar then moved to our beautiful booth seating. My husband and our friends hadn’t been before and I was so looking forward to introducing them to The Gidley- it did not disappoint! The lovely polish gentleman Matt (I believe this was him name) who looked after us gave us excellent recommendations and was so on top of everything along with the others on the floor. The ambience, the food, the drinks- everything was superb. You can’t find a single flaw. I only give Google recommendations to businesses that I believe are extremely worthy and The Gidley is that and more. I can’t wait for the next time. Thank you so much for a perfect night!

Highly recommend if you’re looking for an intimate yet high quality, speakeasy type restaurant, especially for a small group of 5-6 people. The service is great, food is great, I would most certainly go back! The appetisers salted mackerel and pork terrine were epic. Boneless ribeye were perfect to share, and 100% on the the sides of garlic mushroom!
